The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps keep families safe and healthy by assisting with energy costs.

Who Qualifies for LIHEAP?

Someone who typically qualifies for LIHEAP:

  • Has a household income at or below the 60% of the state median income for their household size
  • Has an energy bill due to an energy company or landlord
  • Is a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident of the U.S.

To receive assistance through LIHEAP, your family must meet eligibility requirements. Funding is limited.

What LIHEAP Does

LIHEAP provides financial assistance to eligible households to help with:

  • Home Energy bills
  • Energy Crisis
  • Weatherization

Households may qualify for regular LIHEAP assistance and/or the emergency Energy Crisis Intervention Program (ECIP) for natural gas, wood, electricity, liquid propane/butane gas and other energy-related services.

LIHEAP is offered in each of the 82 counties in Mississippi, pending the availability of funds. Vulnerable households receive the greatest priority among families who qualify for services. Vulnerable households include those households with members who are elderly, disabled, or with children age 5 or younger.
