Rights and responsibilities OF TEMPORARY ASSISTANCE FOR NEEDY FAMILIES (tanf) HOUSEHOLDS
All TANF households have both rights and responsibilities.

Details about changes to your situation that must be reported to MDHS and the requirement to cooperate with child support are all provided below.
Report Household Changes
Important: For most changes, TANF recipient households must report within ten (10) days of the change becoming known to the household.
These changes include:
- Changes in household composition (addition or loss of a household member)
- Changes in residence and resulting shelter costs
- Changes in the legal obligation to pay child support
- A change of more than $125 in the amount of monthly unearned income
- A change of more than $125 in monthly earned income from the amount used to determine eligibility
- A change in the source of income (such as an employment change) if it results in a change in income
- Change in liquid resources that exceeds the household’s limit
Note: Income changes must be reported within 10 days of the date the household receives the first payment that resulted from the change.
TANF households must report within five (5) days if one or both of the following changes occur:
- the head of household moves out of state
- it becomes clear that a child will be out of the household for more than 30 days.
How to Report Changes
Contact your TANF case worker at your local county office and complete a SNAP/TANF Change Reporting Form (MDHS EA Form 946).

Requesting a Hearing
If you receive or have applied to receive benefits from MDHS, you can appeal any decision MDHS makes about your case that you think is wrong by requesting an Administrative Hearing.
Reporting TANF Fraud
You can report fraud in any MDHS program – including SNAP or TANF – committed by a business, individual, or organization by contacting the MDHS Office of Inspector General.
